A recent project is the restoration of the Opera House planning and feasibility model, commissioned by the Opera House Trust. As a cutting edge model for its time, the model featured at World Expo 1974 in Washington.
H. F. Lambert Industrial Models originally constructed the model. Measuring 4.5m long by 3m wide and standing at over 1.8m high - which equates to a scale of 1inch to the foot - (1:48) the model is constructed entirely out of acrylic, an innovative material for the period. Due to the complex construction of the Opera House, a study model was constructed to highlight ducting and potential ducting routes throughout the building. These routes are shown in coloured acrylic. All internal rooms, theaters, stages, corridors, fire escapes, green rooms, and plant rooms are detailed in clear acrylic.
The Opera House Trust commissioned Porter Models to restore the model and re-construct missing parts. This massive project has involved researching and locating parts of the model from 24 crates and piece by piece re-assembling the model to complete this 3D puzzle. This on-going project has taken 3 months to complete.
